In this ongoing series of articles, we probe the minds of some dAmn's
channel founders to find out what makes them tick, how they've made
their room a success and what tips they can provide to budding channel
owners.

This month is TheSinisterLove and RainbowBordello

---

1) First off TheSinisterLove, can you tell us a little bit about yourself!
I like to see myself as an enthusiastic DevArt participant. I like being a part of the community, meeting people, bringing people together, and I love to share my art and exchange feed back with other users. It has helped feed my appreciation of art and it's various forms.

2) When did you first discover dAmn, and can you remember the first room you ever chatted in?
- I discovered the chats possibly... February 2010? I was invited to join a room and I investigated what it was about. Since then the room has fallen apart, but the room I participate in now is going strong. ( chat.deviantart.com/chat/rainb… )

3) What prompted you to create RainbowBordello ? Did you feel dAmn was missing a room on a specific topic? Did you think other rooms weren't catering to a user's needs? Tell us all!
- Though the existing rooms were great, I found the people running the rooms to be abusing their power, adding unnecessary stress to a potentially fun chat.
In the short time that the room has been open it has excelled in gaining members and becoming and active and exciting chat room, surpassing other chatrooms that have been around for multiple years.
I feel that I have achieved my mission whenever a guest points out how welcomed they feel in the room, or thanks another member for being patient/tolerant/understanding of their differences. I hope that by creating this room i can teach others that through persistent kindness and understanding you can gain greater rewards

4) When you created RainbowBordello , did you promote it, and if so how?
I promoted the room by welcoming any guest that stumbled upon it, welcoming them into a conversation and making an effort to get to know them. Every person that i left an impression on invited a friend of their own, word got around that it was a fun place to talk and make friends.

5) Have you ever held any contests or events in  RainbowBordello in order to generate more exposure and more traffic? If no, why not? If yes, what sort of events / contests?
We've made playful contests, things to give people something to do, mostly just games to laugh about. Little challenges like drawing something specific and taking a picture of it. Our contests are more to make the room fun than to encourage more people to join.

6) Do you have any advice for new room owners? Should they collaborate with existing rooms? Should they pester their friends to help promote?
The best advice i can offer is to give people the kindness and respect they deserve. Don't be too quick to judge. Every member of my room is a great person that i could tell you plenty about because i cherish the community they represent.

7) Has the Groups platform aided you in managing your chatroom; if so, how?
It has provided a good place to put the rules for the chat room, which are placed in the journal. It's also a good place to show affiliates and show case some of the great art that our members create.

8) Anything else to add?
"How many friends I have" isn't about "how many", its about "friends". : )
