I'm sure I've told this story before on a number of occasions but oh well you get to read it again... assuming anyone still follows my page.

I joined dA on October 11th, 2003 almost 11 years ago. However i had been lurking for about a month or so before i joined stalking Ikue's page. I had just started working as a photographer for a local hotel and thought that in joining I might be able to pick a few photographers brains on tips to improve my work. Well Ikue is the one that suggested I join and after some thought I started trying to come up with a username. I knew i was only going to be posting photos so I wanted something camera related and searched the internet for nicknames of photographers and found "shutterbug" obviously by this time that name was already taken but I liked "shutter" and I used to refer to myself as "monkey" on MSN and AIM at the time so I joined the two and got "shuttermonkey" a name I've grown to love and use a lot.

My start on dA was kind of rocky, I didn't post much and what ever I did post didn't get much attention. That changed when I stumbled into the Forums and found ways to get advice and critiques on my works. I didn't find my true place on dA though until dAmn was introduced.

In 2005 I discovered dAmn and found my way into the then #thumbshare chat room and fell in love and not only found a place to share my work, get noticed and get critiques but i made some very close friends which led to me joining the Thumbshare team in early 2007. I loved moderating the chat room and planning events and spent almost every free minute i had on dAmn. This led me into the #devart which I at first was nervous about because i thought that was where the "cool" people hung out and didn't think i'd fit in. Much to my surprise I loved it and it became my second home on dAmn. From there i got involved with the #help chat room and team and met a whole slew of awesome people!

On July 14th, 2008 I woke up to find that I had been given a ` (made a senior) and I was shocked and so excited. Then on August 21st, 2008 I was asked to join the then Message Network Operator team (MN@) and i was elated. I took the volunteer team seriously and poured myself into the community just like I had before. I spent almost 4 years volunteering and saw the team shift to Community Volunteers and got to mentor alot of newbie volunteers and make loads of friends until saldy real life took over.

Unfortunately now my free time is limited and I tend to spend it away from the computer. But there is always this pull the brings me back to dA and dAmn. It is like my online home I still pop in on dAmn from time to time and though i wish I had more time for it, I still have my memories.

I big hug and love ya to my dA family  you guys are all the best!!!

It's dA's 13th birthday today ... dAmn does time go by fast I still remember joining almost 10 years ago like it was yesterday :la:

Hope to see many more birthdays with you all!
Hey everyone!

So I've been really busy see my last post. Work has been crazy busy but in a good way and I am still losing it. I still peak into dA every so often but i haven't had much time to post anything but i miss you all and i miss volunteering and just being artistic in general.

This weekend i was able to get away to a small cay off of Abaco, Bahamas called Man-O-War Cay to visit my sister with Chris. I got to veg out on the beach and take some pictures to follow.

How are all of you?
Yes as the subject of the journal implies (and my sudden symbol change) I have stepped down from the Community Relations Team. It has been a hard decision but with my job taking up a lot of my time and some other things eating up my free time I have had very little time to dedicate to my duties as a Community Volunteer and Mentor.

I apologize to those who have sent me DD suggestions that have gone unopened and to the members of the CR Team, Chat Network and the APN Gallery for my lax in duties.

I want to thank Moonbeam13, Tachy-on and fourteenthstar for allowing me to be a member of the Volunteer teams and for allowing me to help mentor the newbies. Also Thank you to the entire team for their help, support and general awesomeness!

Thank you to the Community as a whole for their support over my years as a volunteer and in my endeavors!

Now that being said I will not be leaving dA, merely stepping away for a bit to work on things. So expect random posts and pokings from me.

Thank you all again for your awesomeness!

Day at The FairAt night, Molly liked to imagine that the tunnel of darkness her blanket made is a log in the forest. A tunnel of a funnel cloud swirling and making the sky completely dark. She loved bed time unlike some children who were scared of the monsters under their beds. She loved the dark and the settling sounds of their big house. It made her feel like she wasn't alone.
Molly's daddy was tucking her into bed, kissing her toes and kissing her nose. It made her wiggle with happiness and she made him kiss her toes and kiss her nose again. He patted her head and told her to go to bed, she had a big day in the morning! Molly watched him leave with green eyes that seemed like they should glow, but lo'n behold, she didn't sleep, she wanted to make the black tunnel a sheep! It didn't take her imagination long to come up with beautiful images of animals.
Butterflies flew across her eyes, landing on her nose. Puffing air from her lips, she made them fly home. She hadn't wanted them to leave yet, their
No Sassy NoThere's a lot I can mention about the two summers when I stayed in Washington. There's plenty that could be said about the times I had with my best friend, and how upset I was for four days that I was to be leaving. Though he made it easy for me, in so many words that is. Sometimes I wish I could still see him, his fuzzy face. His eyes were like giant pieces of chocolates, not that I really had any preference to color. Did they come in different colors?
I was living in Marcus, Washington. It's a small town East of Seattle and very hinky-dinky. Right now I'm in Arizona. The only reason I moved was because my old-fashioned father was having a hard time of imagining his youngest daughter living on her own, especially in such a teeny town. There were neighbors there but not enough for him to be able to sleep at night.
I had been sitting on the porch of the small house I'd been able to lasso with the small amount of money that I had, sipping coffee at one a.m. When I was out there, it was g

The person who entered didn't care.
He didn't care whether or not Marcela Rodriguez had a family. Didn't care if she was a mother, someone's daughter. Did not care if she had a life. Because she didn't now. The nameless assailant excused himself as he squeezed by her and the navy blue Laundromat table.

"You're excused." A small accented voice whispered.
Did that little beaner just talk back to him? He c

Hey everyone,

So I've been meaning to write this journal since the 2nd but works been keeping me busy and exhausted.

When the 2nd rolled around and congratulate me on Skype I was so confused until I saw the article (here) and i was floored. I have been a member of the dA community for almost 9 years and I've seen so many users receive the devious award and I'll admit i always wished one day that it would happen to me and would pop back into my head every so often. But i become more caught up in serving the community as a Volunteer and a Mentor to the team that it was no longer something i thought of.

I am also overwhelmed by the community's response, thank you to all of you that suggested me and think i deserve this award. I spent a few days just reading the words in the article and smiling. I also want to thank fourteenthstar for not only giving me the award but her support through out my time here on dA on and off the team and Tachy-on and Moonbeam13 as well for letting me be apart of the Volunteer Team and to Mentor my teammates and supporting me as well. Also the Community Volunteers and the Community for everything they do!

I feel silly writing this haha but i just wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone!
Hey everyone!

Its been awhile since I've updated my blog due to several factors, mostly because of my move home and new job. But i think i am getting settled in and I have a bit more time to access dA. I didn't fulling disappear i was still able to do a few of my duties as a CV but i wasn't able to post DD's. So for all of those persons who sent me DD suggestions I apologize for my negligence on that matter. I started to go through the notes i had and realized that most had received DD's from other CV's or  the person deactivated etc. so i ended up purging all of my notes and decided to start over. So if you can forgive me please send your new DD suggestions for the Animal Plants and Nature gallery to me. I also will be resuming my "Putting the ART in #devART" series starting next month so keep an eye out for that.

Other than that I have finally finished my training at work and I am now working shifts ... which sucks in a way. I am currently doing a month of night shifts (11pm - 7am) and its rather difficult to get myself adjusted to that sort of shift since my body is so used to being asleep those hours. Sleeping in the day is a chore and i find myself taking naps more than sleeping my full 8 hours which makes me feel like i am wasting my entire day and not getting to spend time with people. I'm trying to find a balance so we will see how it works.

I'm also still working on trying to get in shape. My brother, sister and myself are all trying so maybe i'll be better this time. I've been walking 2 - 4 miles a day which feels great just need to keep it up.

I've posted some work recently and hope to post some more as well as get out with my camera which i haven't really had a chance to do sine i moved home.

For those of you who are not members please check out the groups deviant365 and projecteducate!!!
My sister-in-law has entered a contest and two of her entries made it to the final 12. But now she needs likes in order to win, so if you could please click the link below and "like" it she would really appreciate it.

This month is RetroZombie and #NaNoWriMo
---

1) First off RetroZombie, can you tell us a little bit about yourself!
Well, it's hard to know where to start, without writing my whole life's story! On dA, I've tried to take advantage of the wide range of art that can be presented here to explore all of my creative outlets. So you'll find visual art of many varieties alongside prose and poetry. I've always had a desire, lying just under the surface, to pursue a career in something creative--usually I envision myself knocking out a great novel, buying a pipe and smoking jacket (no tobacco, though ;)) and living out my years as an eccentric writer of fiction. :)

2) When did you first discover dAmn, and can you remember the first room you ever chatted in?
Wow… That would be over 5 years ago. There was a chat room that was, at the time, "the place to go" for writers--I can't recall what it was called, though. I remember imperfect and MinorKey were the Gallery Directors (yes Directors!) at the time. I actually didn't spend a lot of time there, I have to admit. It wasn't until later on that I plunged back into dAmn and found some rooms that were fun and friendly to be in. :)

3) What prompted you to create #NaNoWriMo ? Did you feel dAmn was missing a room on a specific topic? Did you think other rooms weren't catering to a user's needs? Tell us all!
Well... as far as I could tell, there weren't any chat rooms dedicated to the participants in that exquisite masochism called NaNoWriMo. I had managed to get myself talked into participating that year (2007!) and didn't want to suffer alone. So, no, there were no other chat rooms that would do, and so I took it upon myself to make one.

4) When you created #NaNoWriMo , did you promote it, and if so how?
Hmmm... What did I do to promote it? As I recall, it was mostly via word-of-mouth at first, and then one of the admins heard of it and made it a featured room, about a week into the event. After that, it just exploded!

5) Have you ever held any contests or events in  #NaNoWriMo in order to generate more exposure and more traffic? If no, why not? If yes, what sort of events / contests?
No, not really. The closest I've come to that was adding the "Word War" feature into the NaNoWriMoBot. That allows the chat participants to create impromptu contests as the whim takes them. Once the room took off, there didn't seem to be any real need to organize contests--besides, when you're trying to write 50,000 words in 31 days, who has time for a contest?!

6) Do you have any advice for new room owners? Should they collaborate with existing rooms? Should they pester their friends to help promote?
Well, I would encourage them to tell anyone and everyone who they think would be interested. Talk to the GM's that are in charge of the galleries that most closely match the theme of your room (if that's applicable). Groups didn't exist when I created #NaNoWriMo, but if I were creating it now, I would ask the admins of as many writing groups as possible to spread the word.

7) Has the Groups platform aided you in managing your chatroom; if so, how?
I, unfortunately, haven't been able to be nearly as active in managing #NaNoWriMo this year as I have in the past, so I don't really have a good answer for that question.

8) Anything else to add?
As I said, I haven't been very active in the room lately, so I want to use this section to call attention to the true stars of #NaNoWriMo this year--the volunteer moderators:
Beccalicious who got the whole thing going again, for the second year in a row now,
KisayaMyst (who keeps a good weather eye on the bot, which sometimes decides to wander off to parts unknown),
BlueBlueFox (another good bot watcher ;)),
Caedy, Demonicsoul87, Flaming-Spirit, Molly-Snicklefritz, Op-Artt, Pola-444, Tannalein, and TheSkaBoss, all if whom pitch in to keep the room running smoothly; some of them returning from last year. Honestly, without this great group of people, the room just wouldn't be functioning at all this year. My role for now is resident bot mechanic, but the #NaNoWriMo moderators have kept the room alive and flourishing. If you visit the room, be sure and thank them for their efforts; after all, they're trying to write a novel this month, too!

---

Thank you RetroZombie and everyone be sure to check out #NaNoWriMo on dAmn!

Wow...

October 11th 2003 I created this account not knowing the impact dA would have on my life. 8 years later? I'm still here and loving it more than ever!

I hope to spend another 80 years (assuming when I am 106 i can still use a computer) here and involved in the community.

Things have changed on dA and so have I or atleast i think so. I joined 8 years ago to get help with my photography and to see what the fuss wa about since Ikue wouldn't stop talking about it. I haven't mastered photography yet but i think i've gotten better at it. I also found a niche for myself in 2004 when i started chatting on dAmn.

I just wanted to say thanks to dA and the community for making this an awesome place!

I gotta run... i'm at work so more later.

CommOps Chat is over!

Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene

First off i want to say thank you to everyone that thought/prayed and wished me well this week and i want to let you all know that Chris, my family and I are safe.

In my last journal I told you all that we were given the order to evacuate and so my parents and I piled into my dad's church van and set out to my Aunt Beverly's house who lives in the city away from the ocean. The reason we were asked to evacuate was that my dad literally lives 10 feet from the ocean and with swells between 10 - 15 ft that put us under water.

Once we got to my Aunt's house the power was already off and the winds were kicking up as well as the rain. With the windows all boarded up and nothing else to do we sat in darkness listening to the updates from the Southern Islands that were currently being hit on the radio.

Alot of the reports were grim to say the least and other were reassuring. We heard reports from Mayaguana and Inagua of damages and loss of power and in Acklins an entire settlement got washed out destroying the homes of over 400 people. In Long island the reported the roof of my dad's friends church was blown off as well as other damage. In Cat Island every single power poll was blown down amongst other damage.

At this point Hurricane Irene was a category 3 hurricane but we had hope as it looked to be shifting to the east removing New Providence (where Chris is) and Grand Bahama (were i am visiting my parents) from the direct path of the eye (which can be the most dangerous part) but unfortunately putting Eleuthera and Abaco in dangers way.

Hurricane Irene continued this path for the most part and with phone lines still working Chris (who was staying with my sister and her 4 year old son) and my brother were able to let us know that their power was off and the winds were strong but things were okay in Nassau.

Not much was heard from Eleuthera and Abaco as the storm approached us and i sadly still do not know really what the condition of either Island is at this moment. Grand Bahama was spared the brunt of the storm though from the news the eastern side of the island (where my dad's church was) had severe wind and flood damage.

The next day Grand Bahama was given the all clear and my dad eager to get back to see the condition of his church piled us back in the car and we set out to see the damage.

There where down trees and debris in the roads of the city but nothing major to be seen. We set out on the 45 minute drive (this island is long) that it takes to get to High Rock Grand Bahama and we hit an obstacle. We came across a puddle of water (more like a lake) so without thinking i follow my dad's instructions to "Go see how deep it is" I took off my shoes and walked out until the water reached above my knee at which point i said screw this and walked back. When i got back we decided the waters were too deep to drive though .. until this much smaller van passed us and proceeded to drive through the water. After seeing them make it my dad was reassured that he could make it as well and we did... We hit about two more of these mini lakes and passed a few downed power lines on the way.

Once we got to the church it was obvious that the waters did rise up but not as high as they thought they would and both my parents home and the church were fine with the exception of minor roof damage bt we had no power or water.

We sat out on the rocks across from my dad's house since the house was hot and i while holding my phone got splashed with a giant wave ... soaking both me and my phone .. it still is not working sadly.

After three days we got water back and later that night the power was restored.

I am thankful that we were spared the brunt of the storm and my heart goes out to those who were not as lucky.

To those still faced with the storm i hope you all stay safe.

Well Tim is looks like we have a lot of screwing to do when we get home

Updates

Update Update Update

Thank you everyone for your concern and well wishes! After 3 days of no power and water (an 3 foot deep waters) we are back! I can finally bath and stop sweating!

I will give you all more updates after i sleep!
Update Update We are being advised to evacuate this settlement due to flood warnings and sever conditions. Not sure the power/internet situation will go though.

Update Okay so just got news that they may be cutting our power first thing in the morning to limit damage so i may not be around for a day or two.

Hey everyone!

There are some exciting things going on over at the communityrelations groups! Us Community Volunteers are busy busy beavers!

:bulletpink: New Community Relations openings can be viewed here

:bulletpink: A new round of Project Educate is about to start and you have a chance to help improve the project so head over to this poll and give your input.

:bulletpink: Do you know art history? Then ScENeYmE wants to hear from you! Head over to this journal to lend your knowledge.

On to my personal updates

As most of you know i have moved back to The Bahamas as of almost a month ago. I haven't done much since I've been home just relaxed and hung out with Ikue, however i have managed to get myself an job! I will be starting in 3 weeks at Doctor's Hospital in Nassau as a Medical Technologist. I am very excited ... not so much about the hours but the work should be fun.

Last Saturday i hopped on a plane with my parents to see where they live now on a Northern Island in the Bahamas called Grand Bahama. Its beautiful here and I've posted a few photos I've taken and have ton's more to go through. My dad's is the priest in charge of two churches here in Grand Bahama one in High Rock and one on Sweeting's Cay which you have to catch a boat over to. I'm having a blast here relaxing with my parents Monday when I woke up however I found out there was a hurricane heading our way... Sure enough there was and with no other option i have to stay here. So my parents and I are in the rectory with all the shutters on both churches and the house in place. We may have to evacuate though as we are right across from the water. Ikue Is in Nassau with my Sister and her son safe and sound as well.

Hopefully the will be minimal damage and i can travel next week to get back home. I will keep you all updated!

To everyone else in Irene's path STAY SAFE!

Also the below quote is my mom talking to my dad about us putting the bolts on the storm shutters... after saying it she turned bright red and started laughing ... it was a "total accident"

Well Tim is looks like we have a lot of screwing to do when we get home

This month we have uae4u and #SkyAndNatureClub

---

1) First off uae4u, can you tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Omran and I am from the UAE. I study computer engineering. I am interested in photography and especially nature photography. I photograph since 2005, and I now own a Nikon D80 and a few lenses and filters. I also like football (soccer) and video games.

on dA, I am a member of this community for 6 years. I own a nature group, SkyAndNatureClub, and I also help in many other groups. I am working on improving my photography skills, and I aim to become a prominent figure on dA :)

2) When did you first discover dAmn, and can you remember the first room you ever chatted in?

I think that was in 2006, and it was this chatroom #emirates. I dont chat there much these days, but I remember it was a fun chatroom. Mainly a social chatroom :)

3) What prompted you to create #skyandnatureclub ? Did you feel dAmn was missing a room on a specific topic? Did you think other rooms weren't catering to a user's needs? Tell us all!

I created #skyandnatureclub at the beginning because I was aiming to strengthen the relationships between staff and members. I wanted to establish a communication between us and the members so that each one of us would know the other more, and so that we improve as a group.

Later, we started using the chatroom for activities and events. We've held a number of events in our chatroom and we've given lots of prizes :)

4) When you created #skyandnatureclub , did you promote it, and if so how?

We promoted #skyandnatureclub in the group's journals when we first created it. A link is also available on the group's front page. We would promote the chatroom every time there is an event to be held there.

5) Have you ever held any contests or events in  #skyandnatureclubin order to generate more exposure and more traffic? If no, why not? If yes, what sort of events / contests?

Yes, as I said earlier, we've held a number of events in our chatroom.

Every year, in November, which is the month of our anniversary, we would hold many events. During our previous anniversaries, we've held events that included scavenger hunts, journal hunts, and questions related to dA and SkyAndNatureClub, with lots of :points: as prizes.

We once held a Feedback event in the chatroom in an attempt to get the members' feedback about the group. We discussed several points, such as the submissions process and the quality standards. The discussion was very helpful ! It certainly needs to be done every now and then.

We also held events during dA's birthdays. Last August, we had some fun activities to celebrate with dA, including mini-contests. One of the mini-contests was a stamp contest, and stamps had to have the number "10" in them, and they had to be done in a short period of time. We got some nice results !

There are the critique events that we've held, where the members would share their photographs and get critiques on them. Its very useful for the ones who are willing to improve their photography skills :)

6) Do you have any advice for new room owners? Should they collaborate with existing rooms? Should they pester their friends to help promote?

I would say first by join other chatrooms and participate in events, and then start with your new room. This gives you an idea of what you would do in your chatroom and it would help you avoid mistakes. Of course, that doesnt mean that you're allowed to steal others' ideas. You're not ! :B

If you'd like to hold an event in your chatroom, make sure you understand and know what you're going to present in the chatroom. Don't just go there without knowing what you want to say. Be prepared!

It also helps to have prizes for your events or mini-contests, so try to collect a certain amount of points for examples as prizes. Its not important of course.

Another thing is that if you're having a guest in your chatroom, you need to tell them what they're going to do in the chatroom. Let them be prepared. For example, if you're discussing a new feature on a website, and you invited this guest, then tell them to be prepared to talk about this in the chatroom. Its really not a nice experience to go to the chatroom not knowing why you were even invited ! :O_o:

7) Has the Groups platform aided you in managing your chatroom; if so, how?

Well, we've had the chatroom since before the introduction of the groups platform, but I can say that the groups platform made it easier to promote the events. Belonging to groups became easier, and now there are more members to know about the chatroom events.

8) Anything else to add?

I'd like to thank SkyAndNatureClub's staff for helping in the group and in the chatroom. Also thanks to all who participated or attended our chatroom events ! Thanks for the support  We are willing to held more events in the future :w00t:

and thanks to shuttermonkey for the interview :D

A Stranger's LoveShe was tired of being broken-hearted.
She found a stranger who loved her.
She met him on the world wide web.
She was lifted from Earth with his "love."
She hooked up with him for 2 days.
She got broken hearted again, brought back down to Earth.
She thought he meant every "i love you."
She found out he says that to every girl.
She was just another victim of love.
She never thought it would happen to her.
A Tiea tie inbetween two.
one who hurts, the other who knew.
such a hard choice,
i want to rejoice.
the one who hurts,
seems so wrong,
to be hurt again,
but he I long.
the one who knew
shows affection now,
right before a 60 day break,
he don't know.
a tie in between two.
one who hurts, the other who knew.
such a hard choice,
i want to rejoice.
Sometimes....sometimes....
I gotta scream.
I must go crazy.
I try to dance.
I have to sing.
